The CPTPP is the most important highlight of regional economic integration around the world this year. Even though the U.S. is no longer a member, the 11 countries of the CPTPP still represent 13.5% of global GDP and can be considered a mega FTA. Quite a few countries including Taiwan have expressed their intention to join the CPTPP in the second round, showing that the CPTPP will continue to grow and its influence cannot be ignored.

From Taiwan's point of view, the developments of the past decade or so, during which there has been a dramatic acceleration of the signing of FTAs by countries around the world, with the elimination of both tariff barriers and non-tariff barriers, have had a serious impact on Taiwan, which is heavily dependent on foreign trade, is closely tied up with global supply chains, and itself has been able to sign only a handful of FTAs.

In light of the above, this speech seeks to analyze the challenges that will be facing Taiwan in the future in relation to the CPTPP. It will be necessary for Taiwan to draw up a comprehensive strategy for its participation in regional economic integration. On this basis, this speech will also discuss how Taiwan can assume a greater role in the trend of regional economic integration.
