Home and commercial food waste carries a heavy social, environmental and financial cost for Taiwan. But with the right technology, it's a low-cost / high-return source of electricity to more than replace nuclear power.
Taiwan is a global leader in recycling. Yet 12 years after mandated separation of kitchen waste, still more than 67% of EPA collections in 2017 were burned…at a taxpayer cost of over NT$8.8 billion. Much of the even larger daily mountain of restaurant, school, hotel, night market, and wet market food waste collected by private haulers is burned or dumped illegally.
For food retailers and restaurants, food waste can be a long-tailed legal nightmare OR a corporate reputation dividend. For food and beverage processors, it means lower utility bills AND upgraded energy and process water supply security from their waste by-product.
For everyone, food waste to energy is a cost-effective answer to Taiwan's energy and pollution woes. It's an enormous – but untapped – daily renewable source of clean energy, organic fertilizer, and reclaimed water.
Join us for an inside look into the generational opportunity that is Taiwan's out of sight, out of mind food waste challenge…and enjoy a guided gourmet tour to clean energy and cleaner air.
