Event Details

The financial importance of trade secrets to both a company’s bottom line and its return on investment is largely misunderstood and very much under-appreciated. In fact, given a choice between protecting an invention by either a patent or trade secrets, most studies suggest that trade secrets bring significantly greater value – but only when properly protected.

Patents remain a vital tool to protecting inventions, but greater attention should be given to trade secrets to achieve a balance in a firm’s IP portfolio.

Dr. Thurston’s presentation will summarize the key business, IP, and financial considerations for trade secrets as they relate to Taiwan companies’ future competitiveness, and explain why trade secrets must now become full-fledged members of the corporate asset base.
